Why I’m Writing: A Beginning, Not an Introduction

June 23, 2025

There is something sacred about a blank page. It asks for honesty. It invites reflection. And
today, it is asking me to begin — not by proving anything, but by showing up as I am.

I have spent 17 years in education, from classroom teaching to district leadership, from early
childhood to policy-level coaching. I have spent years learning to listen, learning to lead,
learning to speak when silence felt safer. And somewhere along the way, I began to write. First
in the margins of notebooks. Then in graduate papers. Then, slowly, in books.

I write because it is how I make sense of things. Of systems. Of setbacks. Of small moments
that carry big meaning. I write because in a world that often moves too fast, writing slows me
down enough to hear what matters. I write because voice matters — not only for students, but
for us, too.

This blog is an extension of my work, but more importantly, it is an extension of my humanity.
Here, I will share:

  • Reflections from the field — what I’m learning, witnessing, and wrestling with in education
  • Thoughts on culturally responsive leadership, multilingualism, and inclusive systems
  • Lessons from my books and the stories that didn’t make it in
  • Moments of motherhood, burnout, and returning to purpose

You will not find polished perfection here. You will find presence. Honesty. Courage in progress.
My hope is that something you read here makes you pause. Maybe even breathe differently.
Maybe even say, “me too.”

This space is not just for answers. It is for questions. For reflection. For returning to what
matters.

And if no one has told you lately:
You don’t have to be fearless to be free. You just have to be willing.
Welcome. I’m glad you’re here
